Cash, personal checks and credit cards are accepted. The front desk will provide a receipt for you to file with your insurance company.
It is important to understand that clinical work provides experience for dental hygiene students. Although it is ideal for students to see patients with all types of oral conditions, there are several minimum requirements enforced for the safety of both the student and the patient.
Due to the educational nature of the program, treatment proceeds more slowly than in a private dental practice because patient care is provided by students and thoroughly monitored by the faculty. You often need to return two or more times for treatment that would require only one or two visits in private practice. The number of appointments necessary will be determined by the complexity of your dental hygiene needs. The clinical staff realizes that the patient's time is valuable and strives to keep to a minimum the number of appointments a patient must have. If multiple appointments are necessary to complete treatment, no additional fee is charged to the patient. *Please note: Children do not typically need a screening visit and have shorter appointments.
Your basic oral health status and treatment needs will be assessed by licensed dental hygienists and dentists. Admission to the program will be denied if the treatment needs are too simple, too complex, or if your needs simply don't meet our current educational objectives. If you are admitted for treatment, necessary x-rays will be taken on the same day, time permitting. Therefore you should allow 1-2 hours for this visit.
During this appointment the student will perform a detailed examination under the supervision of faculty. A properly sequenced treatment plan will be developed so that the patient clearly understands how the treatment will proceed as well as the number of appointments required for the completion of care. You should expect appointments to last 3-4 hours each visit.
